Mother and Daughter Both Diagnosed with Breast Cancer: Their Story

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

In 1984 Margery Gould Rath of Massachusetts started raising money for the American Cancer Society in order to honor other cancer survivors. She then created Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. The first event brought in 200 participants and has now grown to attracting 8 million people to walk at their events nationwide. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer aims to unite communities through walking events that are designed to raise awareness and funds to help prevent deaths due to breast cancer. In 2001 Rath passed away from breast cancer, but her organization is still going strong.
