Throughout his academic career, Dr. McClure earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus in Biology and Religion from Pacific Lutheran University in 1983, and obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biochemistry from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1987. He then went on to complete his medical education at the University of Utah School of Medicine in 1993, before completing his internship and residency in psychiatry at the Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center in 1997.

Achieving fellowship status, he is a Fellow of the American Psychoanalytic Association (FAPA), and a Fellow of the National Science Foundation. He has also published papers in multiple scholarly journals and performed original medical research.
