  • Can an infection be causing recurrent fever?

If she has only had fever for a few days, and it's only a low-grade fever like 101, unless there are other worrisome symptoms like lethargy, extreme fatigue, excessive vomiting, etc., it is likely that she has a viral infection of some type and it will run its course over the next few days. If she gets really ill appearing, take her to be seen by a doctor. If the fever persists past 9 days or so, take her to see a doctor even if she doesn't look all that ill. But if she looks ok and is maintaining hydration, I would allow her to run temps in the 101-102 range for a week or more before getting very concerned, especially if she has already been seen earlier in the illness and doesn't have specific complaints like severe ear pain, severe throat pain, severe abdominal pain, or severe headache. • Cough for 1 week plus - should I worry?

If the cough lasts 10 days or more, occurs both day and night, and is not improving AT ALL, it is likely to be a sinus infection and should be treated with antibiotics. If she fills all those criteria, please take her to your primary care doctor. If the cough is improving, it is likely to be a common cold or bronchitis, both of which are usually caused by viruses and improve on their own. READ MORE

  • If my son has chicken pox, how can I prevent it from spreading to other children? my

Chickenpox is highly contagious. Keep the other children away from the infected child as much as possible, but there is probably no way to prevent spread within a household. If the other children were vaccinated, it is likely that even if they contract the virus they will not be very sick. READ MORE
