Get to know Dermatologist Dr. Ronald M. Harris, who serves patients in Yuma, Arizona.

Dr. Harris is a highly-regarded, board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist specializing in general, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. He is the owner & operator of Integrated Dermatology of Yuma, PLLC in Yuma, Arizona.

Having been in academics and private practice for the past two decades in Utah, Arizona, and California, he is currently a Clinical Professor of Dermatology and Pathology at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. He can also be found at UCI Health Dermatology Center – Irvine & UCI Health Dermatology Services – Orange.

A native of San Francisco, Dr. Harris completed medical school at the UCSF School of Medicine in 1989. He then went on to perform his internship in internal medicine at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center, his residency in dermatology at the University of Utah Medical Center, and his residency in anatomic & clinical pathology at Penrose-St. Francis Health Services. This was followed by a fellowship in dermatopathology with the University of Pennsylvania Health System.

Specializing in skin care, he is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD). The ABD is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.

Furthermore, he is board-certified in dermatopathology and anatomic & clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology (ABPath). The mission of ABPath, a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties, is to serve the public and advance the profession of pathology by setting certification standards and promoting lifelong competency of pathologists.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dr. Harris is a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American Society of Dermatopathology, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, and the International Society of Dermatology.

In addition to his clinical interests, he holds research interests in severe cutaneous drug eruptions, melanoma genomics, HIV dermatology, and cosmetic dermatology.

Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the skin, the largest organ of the body; a specialty with both medical and surgical aspects. A dermatologist is a specialist doctor who manages skin diseases and deals with both internal and external causes and some cosmetic concerns involving the skin. Dermatological duties include taking consultations, providing screening tests, and undertaking non-invasive surgical procedures.

Attributing his success to having supportive parents and mentors, Dr. Harris has been involved in several global health projects in sub-Saharan Africa since 2003, and was a visiting professor of dermatology in more than a dozen countries, lecturing on dermatologic emergencies and tropical dermatology.

He trained a number of dermatology residents in the United States, Ghana, Ethiopia, and Kenya. He is also a recipient of several humanitarian awards, and has partnered with the Clinton Global Initiative since 2005  — providing care for HIV/AIDS patients in Nakuru, Kenya.

When Dr. Harris is not with patients, he enjoys ocean activities including surfing and paddleboarding, running, biking, and spending time with his daughter, Sophie. His favorite professional publications are the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery.
