Is a zirconium crown a good option for front teeth?
Dependent on various factors, a zirconia crown may be a good option. The problem with zirconia generally is the translucency and opaqueness of the material. YES, it is strong, but it is generally not "naturally" looking. A preferred option in the front of your mouth is lithium disilicate, which is far more translucent and nicer looking. If the esthetics is your main concern, strongly consider lithium disilicate. For STRENGTH, zirconia. Good luck! Dr James Doundoulakis, DMD MS, prosthodontist, Greenwich CT READ MORE
What bridge material is the most durable?
For most patients, the newer ALL Ceramic materials - non-metalic - work very well and are fairly esthetic. With some specific applications, the former porcelain to Metal fixed bridge may still need to be considered, dependent on the length of the bridge. Our patients mostly prefer the ALL "white " ceramic option most. And over time, these restorations have held up. All our patients are given a soft occlusal guard after their treatment is completed to help mitigate excessive forces during work outs or sleep. Good Luck! What are the problems with partial dentures?
RPD’s were popular 20-30 yrs ago. Yes, they do move when you eat or speak and can add more stresses to the remaining teeth that retain the appliance. Today the state of the art tooth replacement options are dental implants. If you have enough bone support AND can afford dental implant tooth replacement, that is the better option for you. Good luck! Dr J Doundoulakis, prosthodontist, Greenwich CT READ MORE

Why do you get antibiotics after a dental implant?
Not all implant patients are prescribed antibiotics after they receive dental implants. Antibiotics are prescribed for specific reasons on a case-by-case basis. Can I brush my teeth with partial dentures?
Of course you can!! Simply remove the new prostheses, brush AND floss your remaining teeth, Clean the new prostheses with Liquid Soap and a denture brush, rinse well, and then reinsert the RPD's. This "ideally" should be done after each meal - bust at least clean your mouth well at the end of the day prior to bedtime. During the day, most patients remove the prostheses, rinse their mouths and the RPD with running water and then re-insert them. At bedtime, best to clean the prosthesis well and leave them in a protected container at night. Dr. J Doundoulakis, prosthodontist, Greenwich, CT READ MORE
