Activities that Benefit Muscular Dystrophy Patients

Movement is good for the muscles

You may ask “Are we talking about exercise?” Well yes, but not exactly. We all know that movement and exercises are good for muscles, but not all kind of exercises are good for people suffering from MD. There is a reason for controversy behind the exercise for MD. MD is the disease of muscular degeneration, and if the muscles are damaged in the exercise, they may fail to re-grow, unlike in healthy people where resistance exercise and breakage of muscles result in better strength (1). So any kind of physical activity or exercise should not damage the muscle fibers of people living with MD, but it should be a kind of exercise or activity that encourages the maximum and right kind of movement in a person, with enough resistance. Further, it is no secret that fatigue is a huge problem in MD.
