High or Low Weight May Make Rheumatoid Arthritis Worse

There are many creative and simple ways to maintain or achieve a healthy weight

The good news is that there are several ways in which you can maintain a healthy weight while living with RA:

  • Exercise on a daily basis by combining stretching and strengthening exercises with low-impact cardiovascular exercise, such as walking or swimming
  • Perform friendly joint exercises, such as lifting light weights
  • Try out a Mediterranean diet to lose weight if you are concerned about your health
  • Do not skip breakfast - eat regularly in the morning
  • Drink more water – at least 6-8-ounce glasses a day
  • Keep a food diary to keep track of what you eat
  • Plan out your meals in order to avoid random snacking
  • Add protein to every meal in order to build strength and muscle mass
  • Bring your own meals to work to help you control food intake
  • Work with a nutritionist or a doctor for support and motivation
  • Watch your medications and talk with your doctor if you experience any unwanted side effects
