High or Low Weight May Make Rheumatoid Arthritis Worse
There are many creative and simple ways to maintain or achieve a healthy weight
The good news is that there are several ways in which you can maintain a healthy weight while living with RA:
- Exercise on a daily basis by combining stretching and strengthening exercises with low-impact cardiovascular exercise, such as walking or swimming
- Perform friendly joint exercises, such as lifting light weights
- Try out a Mediterranean diet to lose weight if you are concerned about your health
- Do not skip breakfast - eat regularly in the morning
- Drink more water – at least 6-8-ounce glasses a day
- Keep a food diary to keep track of what you eat
- Plan out your meals in order to avoid random snacking
- Add protein to every meal in order to build strength and muscle mass
- Bring your own meals to work to help you control food intake
- Work with a nutritionist or a doctor for support and motivation
- Watch your medications and talk with your doctor if you experience any unwanted side effects
