How Sleep Apnea Affects the Body

Nervous System

One type of sleep apnea starts with the nervous system.  Central sleep apnea makes the person's brain stop sending signals to the body to breathe.  It is not as apparent as the blocking of an airway.  If this condition is left untreated the person may start to have other nervous system symptoms.

They may feel their body becoming numb.  Their limbs or area of the body may appear to fall asleep and start to tingle.  These feelings of numbness or tingling can be alarming if they happen frequently.
