New Smartphone App to Help Doctors Diagnose Alzheimer’s

The app is under trial before it can be widely used

The team has now launched the app under a trial at the Memory Diagnostic Center at their home medical school. For six months, every new dementia evaluation will require the caregiver to use this app and fill out a questionnaire before the appointment. Afterwards, a dementia specialist will see the patient and make a diagnosis. At the same time, another specialist will also make a diagnosis using only information gathered from the app.  The student-led team will then compare the diagnostic assessments of these two clinicians and pick out the questions that were most helpful to guiding an accurate diagnosis. The team will also record how long it takes the doctors to actually read and use the app’s report. This way, they could measure exactly how much time was actually saved by using the app.
