The Continued Journey to Finding a Cure for Celiac Disease

Nexvax2: A vaccine that may help eliminate gluten intolerance

With Phase 2 trial not being too far off, this vaccine is a promising development in treating celiac disease. Since it’s conception in an Australian laboratory in 2003, many have been keeping close tabs on this research topic. Like other vaccine shots, the aim of this vaccine is for the patients to develop gluten tolerance after a series of injections. Four Phase 1 studies have been completed that look at safety, tolerability, and dosing as the main focus.

Next on the agenda for this vaccine is working on the durability of the patient’s response to the vaccine. If the tests go well, getting rid of the gluten-free diet may no longer be a dream but a reality.
