Understanding a Worker's Rights with Diabetes

Disclosure of the condition

A person does not have to disclose their diagnosis of diabetes to the human resources department or to a hiring manager during an interview. If the condition would have little or no effect on job performance, then disclosure is not necessary and by law, not required by an employer unless the job situation, like those previously mentioned, such as first responders or commercial pilots and drivers. Thus, if one suspects that he or she has been denied gainful employment on account of having diabetes, then the appropriate steps need to be taken by contacting the local department of labor.
