What does it have to do with colitis?

Bolen further educates us about colitis: In general, colitis is an inflammation of the colon (large intestine). For runners, that can translate to cramps and loose stools that occur either during or shortly after a run, which can last from hours to weeks.

So, what causes this to happen? The medical field considers Runners’ Trots/Colitis to be an exercise-induced condition. In fact, studies have shown that the physical stress of running can be a primary factor in this condition (Mary Caffrey).
