There are currently two types of diabetes mellitus, which are classified according to the amount of insulin that are lacking in a person’s body. These two are commonly known as Type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent) and Type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent). However, the most common diagnosis of the disease is Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), which is diagnosed in 90 to 95 out of 100 people. Type 1 diabetes is prevalent in only 5 to 10 out of 100.
