What Do Your Sleep Habits Say About Your Physical and Mental Health?

If you always sleep more than 8 hours per night, you could have a higher risk of stroke.

Information regarding sleep is always a little bit tricky, and we are constantly fed contradictory information about how much we should be getting. Some sources say you do not even need six hours, some say you need more than eight. However, it is generally accepted that, for an adult, the magic number is 7-9 hours. Despite this being agreed upon from medical professionals, a study has shown that those who sleep more than 8 hours a night are at an increased risk of suffering from a stroke.

The study took place at the University of Cambridge, and discovered this risk for those who enjoy their sleep. Of course, not everyone sleeps the same amount every day, but the researchers stated that those who regularly sleep for longer than 8 hours have over double the risk of stroke than those who do not. For more information, the study has been published in the journal Neurology.
