Portrayals of serial killers in popular culture tend to focus on psychopaths. Dr. Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs is a classic example. Real-life psychopaths are even more disturbing than their fictional counterparts. The reality of psychopathy is far more terrifying than anything you see in movies or television shows.
