Cardiologist Questions Heart Diseases

Are heart diseases heriditary?

My mother and father both passed away due to a cardiac arrest. Am I also likely to have a weak heart?

Depends on the diagnosis of your parents. The type of weak heart or "Cardiomyopathy" is usually divided between "ischemic" - caused by lack of blood flow due to coronary artery disease and "non-ischemic," which has a variation of causes including genetic. If it was from heart attacks, then the goal is to identify why they had heart attacks and focus on them, i.e., smoking, familial hypercholesterolemia, etc.
Weak heart is hereditory as well. if you have echo-c , it will show if your heart is dilated or not. Cardiac arrest can be from hardening of the arteries too. to make sure that you have stress test done periodically.check your cholestrol level, potassium & magnesium levels.Sometime we recommend you to take aspirin 81mg once daily if there is no contraindication.

Some of them are. Without a precise diagnosis, it's impossible to assess a risk.
