Yes w proper therapy
The gum problem can be caused by many factors, with a proper treatment the prognosis of healing the gums is positive.
Thank you for the question. Yes, “gum pockets“ can be reduced with the right treatment, but bone loss that accompanies the tissue inflammation can be permanent.
Gum pockets can heal if you have all of the plaque and build-up removed from the teeth and below the gums. This can generally be taken care of with a simple cleaning or a scale and root planning for more severe cases. Loss of bone in the area, however does not return. It is imperative that you get the gums under control as soon as possible to avoid periodontal disease.
Pockets heal if and when treated. They usually do not heal on their own. They form due to bacteria and "sticky film" or plaque disrupting the seal of the gum tissue against the tooth. In order to recreate that seal, that bacteria and film have to be removed and cleaned out.
Gum pockets do heal when they are cleaned out appropriately. The bone typically does not grow back but the gum tissue can become healthy again. The usual treatment is scaling and root planing, also known as deep cleaning.
