Can hernia surgery be done with local anesthesia?

I will have hernia surgery. I want to know if hernia surgery can be done with local anesthesia?

It can be done, but you have to be a very motivated patient to get only local anesthesia. But you may need some IV sedation on top of that. This stands for inguinal hernia repair, not umbilical or at any other location.
