Nephrologist (Kidney Specialist) Questions Creatinine

Can there be an increase in creatinine levels due to fever?

My mother is a diabetes patient for the last 12 years. Recently we had a creatinine check up done for her which indicated a high number. She was suffering from a viral infection at that time. Could the increased number be due to the viral infection?

Likely has chronic kidney disease due to diabetes, unless her BP was low in setting of fever and she has acute kidney injury. Has she been having nausea/vomiting/diarrhea? Taking any ibuprofen or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications for fever? These meds can cause AKI.
It depends on how poorly she was, whether she was dehydrated, and whether her blood pressure dropped. I would recheck a week or so later to ensure it has settled back to baseline.
