Yes
Sitting needs to be balanced by walking; otherwise it will cause back pain. Walking in chest deep water is excellent for unloading joints while performing normal gait and helps muscle coordination while maintaining range of motion.
Yes, too much sitting can cause back pain. Sitting puts the most pressure into the low back structures, as compared to standing or laying down.. There are a myriad of options to address the pain. There is Chiropractic, physical therapy, massage, and stretching programs like Yoga. Please remember that "Motion is the lotion" and you need to bring mobility back into the spine.
In order to make sure there is not a serious underlying problem, I would recommend that you see a doctor first.
Back pain is a symptom with many possible diverse causes. There is no way to diagnose the causes without a comprehensive evaluation by a qualified specialist. Sitting is usually not associated with worsening back pain. Sitting usually reduces stress on the lower back. If your pain is increasing in frequency or severity, it demands immediate attention. If it is stable and non-severe, then a measured approach starting with visiting your personal physician for the appropriate referrals makes the most sense. Good luck!
Our bodies are meant to move. If you are spending most of your day sitting I would recommended getting up every 30-60 minutes and walking around and do some stretching. If you have been sedentary for som time and the walking/stretching does not seem to help, I would recommend getting into a chiropractor for an adjustment so that your able to get mobility back into your joints!
