Do metal braces cause gum recession?

I want to straighten my teeth with braces. Do metal braces cause gum recession?

No braces do not causes gingival recession. Orthodontic treatment done correctly moves the teeth through the bone and brings the gingival tissues with it. If, you have recession more like caused by lack of meticulous dental hygiene.
Gum recession can occur for many reasons that have nothing to do with braces, metal or ceramic, or plastic.. were gum recession to occur during orthodontic treatment it would be a sign of improper movement, improper brushing, or a clenching/grinding habit.

Gum recession can happen due to a variety of reasons. There are no direct links between metal braces and gum recession as far as I know. Nowadays better do Invisalign to straighten your teeth. Much healthier on gums.
