Do you need a cast after ACL surgery?

Most likely with Physical Therapy, mainly a brace.
No. You will be wearing a restrictive brace for about six weeks and then some people will wear a sleeve after that for protection. Physical therapy is the most important thing after an ACL tear to prevent any future injury and compensation issues.
Haven't used a cast after ACL surgery in 30 years. Usually a removable brace
Hi,

Usually, the decision on the cast is determined by the surgeon after the surgery. Generally, you don’t need one, but it’s the doctor's call.

The anterior cruciate ligament is a stabilizing ligament of the knee. It is frequently injured by athletes and trauma victims. After examination by an orthopedic surgeon the diagnosis is confirmed by an MRI.After the decision is made for surgery and the operation is completed full range of motion should be started immediately following the ACL reconstruction.Lack of ability to regain normal knee motion is associated with an increase risk of osteoarthritis.Passive motion machines and knee braces have found to be of little benefit for rehabilitation after ACL surgery. So the answer is no you won’t need a cast after ACL surgery.
Typically you will have to wear a brace after ACL surgery for roughly 2 months. Every surgeon is different with their post surgery protocols.
Not usually. But there are many other factors to consider in order to completely understand the plan of care.
