Hello
Have you tried taking one or two Advil and/ or extra strength Tylenol ? You can combine both to get a synergistic effect and more pain relief .
Thank you

Find something rubbery to chew on when a new archwire is placed. It will help signal the teeth to move and reduce the discomfort. The discomfort means your teeth are aligning correctly so look at it from that perspective
If it hurts too much, then you nee to talk to your orthodontist about your problem. I remember the old days when we used too much force because our wires were too big and unyielding. We have much lighter arch wires that preform better with lower force. Ask for lighter wire size and a plastic wafer to chew on after an adjustment which will help reduce discomfort as will OTC pain relievers for only 2 days. Teeth need the exercise of chewing to improve blood circulation which reduces pain.. Also need to make sure you are not clenching or grinding your teeth at night which could be the reason you might need a night guard
If you are able to take Ibuprofen or Aleve, these should help with your discomfort. Also, rinsing with warm salt water will help soothe the gum tissues.
