If the root canal is performed properly swelling should begin to reside within in three days to one week in most cases. Some dentists choose to prescribe antibiotics before they complete the root canal therapy.
Usually antibiotics keep swelling down. Place ice on your face on the side of the root canal the fist 24 hours then moist heat there after 15 minutes at a time .Please check back with your doctor.
Moist heat on face 15 minutes on, 30 minutes off. Do not leave the heat on continuously and not hot enough to cause a burn.
You probably need antibiotics and anti-inflammatory meds such as ibuprofen or aspirin (if you can take them). Also, warm salt-water rinses and a heating pad off and on will help the swelling resolve. If those things do not work there may be a more serious problem that you need to address with your dentist.

You can try putting some ice pack to reduce swelling. If the swelling does not go away, you should contact the dentist who did the root canal. They may need to prescribe antibiotics or do some follow up procedures.
