Hi,

Crowns can last indefinitely, but generally, it’s estimated at around 5-10 years. It depends on the maintenance. If you wear a night guard (if you clench or grind), daily brushing and flossing, the preparation of the tooth - how much decay, etc., was present. Your dentist can assess your particular situation and see if any issues are present.
Hope this helps!
Our experience over the last 40 plus years is that crowns on front teeth oftentimes last a lifetime, i.e. more than 30,40 years and beyond. I personally have front crowns that were placed 40 years ago. Obviously just as a natural tooth can break, a crown could also break. The porcelain used on esthetic crowns is vey durable.
The longevity of crowns varies. There are many factors that will shorten the lifespan of crowns. One contributing factor that will shorten the lifespan of any crown is poor hygiene. Under the crown is tooth structure that can still decay or succumb to bone loss. With great home care and routine dental check-ups, a crown can last for many years.
I have had crowns or veneers on patients' front teeth that have lasted for 20 years and look good! However, as the years go by, many people, as they age, will experience some gum line recession. This often appears as a dark crescent at the gum line, and for many, is esthetically unacceptable. This would then influence whether you would want them redone. On some people, their lip covers this always and therefore it is less of an issue.
