The radioactive material is spell from the body through urine, saliva, and sweat. Some types of radioactive material stay in your body and are deposited in different organs. Eventually, the material decays and your body naturally are eliminated. They can stay in the body from few minutes to few days, depending on the amount of radiation given. Thank you.
The radiation per se does not stay in the body, but the potential damage to organs, particularly blood vessels, usually is lifelong and the particular organ cannot regenerate. This is usually dose dependent.
External beam radiation therapy passes through the body quickly and does not stay in the body. The side effects may take longer to resolve. If your daughter still has symptoms, discuss it with her radiation oncologist.
