It can be. Local anesthesia with sedation is a choice the surgeon makes in collaboration with the anesthesiologist. Without knowing the nature of your surgery, a spinal may be a good option without the risks of general anesthesia.

Usually no. Some local anesthesia with sedation.
It depends on the type, if only soft tissue it would probably suffice. If a major surgery with bone or arthroscope, no.
General anesthesia.
In most of my cases for ankle surgery, I do combine general anesthesia with a local block.
That is a question for you to ask your surgeon.
Local anesthesia can be used for some ankle procedures. It depends on the procedure being performed. Sometimes local anesthesia is used in combination with sedation, that way you are asleep, and your ankle is anesthetized.
It depends on the type of surgery. For ligament repair and fracture fixation or arthroscopy usually regional block or general anesthesia can be done. Local anesthesia is done only in small short duration surgeries like screw removal. Please discuss this with your doctor.
It depends on what is being done. For removal of a superficial mass it can be done. On the other hand, it would not be the best choice for an ankle replacement.
It’s general
I would recommend that you speak to your surgeon regarding this question and any other question you have about the surgery.
Yes, local anesthesia is used along with General Anesthesia. You will likely be sleeping by the time the local anesthesia is adminisitered
The type of anesthesia will vary based on the procedure. I recommend you discuss with your surgeon the type of anesthesia they prefer for your particular case
