Is popcorn healthy for kids?

My son loves popcorn and is practically addicted to it. He only would want the movie butter popcorn, which I know contains plenty of sodium. Do you think that this is a safe snack for children? Should I get him a different type of popcorn that is, a little bit, healthier?

We avoid popcorn until above 3 years old due to risk of aspiration on the kernels. If he is older than this, popcorn has a lot of fiber and is healthier than sugar snacks. However the salt and fat can be decreased with lite butter and low sodium
