Being active is important but don't overdo it if you have arthritis. Listen to your body and don't push it.
Yes, walking is good for the knee joint and muscles and ligaments and also good for your thigh muscles- perhaps 1-2 visits with a physical therapist can help you develop the right exercise plan for you
Yes, walking and other exercises to strengthen the quadriceps muscles is good for knee pain.
I don’t know the severity of your knee arthritis, so my answer will be generalizations. Generally, if the knee joint isn’t bone on bone, then yes walking is good for individuals suffering from knee arthritis. This is because it will strengthen the muscles and tendons of the knee area. Also, leg extensions would also be good to do in strengthening the quadriceps muscles in the front of your thigh. This strengthening of muscles and tendons will take off stress on your knee joints. Further, losing weight is extremely important too, because the knee is a weight-bearing joint. So, the heavier you weigh, the more stress is being put on your knee joints. Walking can also help you lose weight if done daily. I recommend that you start walking, or any type of exercise, slow and under your Physician's recommendations.
