Obstetrician and Gynecologist Questions OB-GYN

Pregnancy concern?

I am currently 7 weeks pregnant and I’m having brown discharge. Is that normal? I had a miscarriage in January of 2021 I was very early though like 4-5 weeks.

How old are you? Have you had a full term pregnancy before? Your past miscarriage: was that a confirmed pregnancy or was it just a delayed period and you thought it was pregnancy? Any family history of recurrent miscarriages? This is important because you had a miscarriage in the past.
If you are young and you have no medical problems, then slight brown discharge in early pregnancy is not unusual. About one in 5 pregnancies can have slight bleeding during the early pregnancy. This happens when your pregnancy is trying to establish a vascular communications with you . ( the blood do not mix). During that process you may have some discharge. If you have no cramping and no heavy bleeding, you can be reassured. One pregnancy loss does not increase your chance of another loss. However, I would recommend you to consult your Obstetrician to check your hormone levels and an ultrasound to confirm that you have a healthy pregnancy and is in the right place.
Good Luck
Hi.The brown discharge can be an indication of bleeding. But you need to watch the bleeding. If you bleeding it may be another miscarriage. What you need to do is keeping away from carrying heavy load, do not stand too long, and don't hang clothes during washing. These are precautions to keep away from bleeding. Hello, Sometimes having some discharge can be normal in pregnancy (such as after intercourse), however any type of vaginal bleeding is not considered normal and would recommend getting an ultrasound if you can to confirm that you have a viable pregnancy (baby with a heartbeat). Hope this helps!
