Varicose vein on ribs and stomach?

Recently noticed a very long varicose vein running up my right side to my rib cage. A week or so later another appeared on my stomach. They don't hurt just look nasty. What could cause these to appear?

Further evaluation is needed. The abdominal wall veins could indicate a deep venous obstruction and the body is trying to divert the blood through different routes. Other causes like increased abdominal pressure.
That may represent a blockage of the outflow vein of the leg on that side. This should be evaluated by a vein specialist.

Sorry, I just saw that. You may have blockage in the deep venous system.
Varicose veins on truncal area viz stomach generally indicate problem with vena cava, blockage in chest veins or liver disorders. Please see your primary care doctor ASAP.
You really must see a physician to have this evaluated. Those types of veins could indicate that you have an obstruction to blood return to the heart from your legs and you have developed "collateral" circulation to bypass the obstruction. A thorough history and evaluation is necessary. DO NOT let anyone treat those veins until a thorough evaluation is done!
Any condition that would put pressure on the abdomen or legs. You should see a physician for further evaluation.
Hi,

Your body compensating for some venous issue most likely in the abdomen. You need someone to examine you and to get a good history. If you drink a lot, then there is a possibility that you may some liver condition leading to this also. I would recommend seeing your medical doctor first and then take it from there.
Good luck.
This could be a manifestation of a blockage of a major vein in your chest or abdomen. Further testing is necessary to establish the diagnosis, such as a CT scan. Please see your doctor asap for further advice.
