Sensitive teeth are a universal problem and it has multiple ideologies. Dentistry has confronted this problem for decades and we have many remedies that could be very helpful. Please seek out a dentist who deals with sensitivity issues. I am sure that you can’t be helped in some respect.
There are OTC products such as Sensodyne that may work, but if this is not the case your Dentist does have medication that can be applied to mitigate sensitivity. Sensodyne takes about 2 weeks to feel the effects. You should see your dentist anyway to make sure there is not a more serious problem causing the issue such as receding gums exposing sensitive root areas of the teeth
Sensitive teeth can be caused by a variety of things, including dental cavities, periodontal disease and root exposure, fractures in the teeth, superabrasive toothpastes, and even acidic foods. In my office, one of the most common causes of tooth sensitivity especially to cold is clenching and grinding. This action causes microcracks in the enamel of your teeth. When you eat or drink these cracks allow the temperature changes to be felt more easily by the dental nerve. Most often when the clenching and grinding is treated, it not only will greatly increase the health of your TM Joint and help protect your teeth from further more severe fractures, but tooth sensitivity will also greatly improve. I utilize neuromodulators in my practice injected in the masseters and temporalis muscles to effectively weaken these muscles and thus weaken the ability to clench and grind (even when sleeping).
You have your dentist apply a special flouride varnish each time you have a recare visit, which may over time, reduce your tooth sensitivity.
First, he has to determine the cause, if possible. That will determine the treatment approach. There are desensitizing products to use and the bite must be evaluated as well.
First you should visit your dentist to make sure there aren’t any cavities. If you don’t have cavities and your teeth are just cold sensitive....they may prescribe you a product like President or MI paste to decrease the sensitivity.
