What hurts more tooth extraction or root canal?

I am a 22 year old male. I want to know what hurts more tooth extraction or root canal?

Very dependent on situation, but 80% of the time an extraction is more painful
Hello,

As long as the dentist properly numbs you with anesthetic, you should be fine pain-wise with either procedure. A root canal is more expensive and should be restored with a crown or permanent restoration soon afterwards. But it is a way of saving your tooth instead of extracting it since you are so young! Sometimes with an extraction, you can end up with a dry socket, which can be quite painful.
Great question.

Thank you,

Dr. J
In my opinion of extraction, if you are numb, a good root canal shouldn't hurt. If you do extraction and you are only 22, there will be more consequences, like bone loss and teeth shifting.
Assuming it makes sense to restore the tooth, you will have less post-procedure discomfort with the root canal.
