Anesthesia for open heart surgery is very safe with good results. The combination of inhalation agents and intravenous medications are the standard of care. Most patients wake up a few hours after surgery and breathing machine can be discontinued shortly after.
Most important is to have a cardiac trained anesthesiologist.
