What is topical anesthetic gel used for?

I am a 30 year old female. I want to know what is topical anesthetic gel used for?

Topical means on the surface and locally.
There are a couple of types...they are used to make things numb (skin, gums, eyes, etc)
Usually applied to skin before starting an iv in kids.
There are multiple types of topical anesthetic gels. They are generally used to treat painful conditions especially when you want to avoid systemic drug-drug interactions. The commonest you will see during anesthesia procedure is EMLA cream (Lidocaine 2.5% and Prilocaine 2.5%). This cream/gel can be applied to the area, usually the back of the hand (for 30 mins to an hour) where an intravenous (IV) access is being planned.
Mostly to start intravenous access, either with a catheter or for access to a port.
Generally used for numbing the skin before a minor procedure,
