Initially treatment is physical therapy & symptomatic relief for six weeks as tolerated. 90% of disc herniations respond to non-Operative treatment within 6 weeks. 10% may require surgery if large, compressive discs do not resolve. Emergency surgery needed if cauda equina syndrome.
