I want to know is it normal to hear a sprained knee crack a bit? How would you elevate a sprained knee?

Usually not. A Zoom consultation would help.
Cracking can occur in many joints with or without injury and is not of concern if the cracking is not painful. However, if the cracking is painful, then it should be investigated by careful exam, radiographs, and perhaps MRI scan. We recommend elevating and knee on pillows and then you can prop it up on your coffee table when you are watching TV. At work elevation is more difficult.
Sometimes a "sprained" knee will involve tearing of some of the fibers of a ligament. If this is what you felt, it should heal. However, sometimes patients feel a "pop" and that is a torn ligament or meniscus. If your knee doesn't heal after 2-3 weeks of rest, ice and ibuprofen 600 mg with each meal, then see an orthopedic surgeon.

Hope it helps!!
