The question of a sunbath after surgery is a great one. In my opinion, the skin of the neck should be carefully protected after surgery, and the sun contributes about 80% to our aging process. One should wear sunblock SPF30 when outside, especially during the hours of 10am-4pm. I usually recommend patients avoid being outside extensively for 6 wks after surgery to protect the surgical incisions from becoming darker.
