I am a 28 year old female. I want to know why do dentists scrape teeth with metal?

Removing tartar with hand instruments uses tactile senses to make sure all calculus under the gums is addressed. Hand instruments are specifically designed not to harm teeth or gums.
Because paper or plastic instruments are unable to remove the calculus (tartar)
