Why does my bunion hurt after running?

After running 6 miles yesterday my bunions hurt bad. Should I see a doctor?

The bunion changes the alignment of your foot. It alters the way you run. Our practice has a dedicated financial specialist who can help you if need be.
Good morning,

Pain from a bunion is due to the inflammation to the bursa over the bunion or bone/joint inflammation. So, to alleviate pain, you need to decrease inflammation. This can be done by appropriate shoe wear, possible orthotic, muscle strengthening, or surgical depending on the deformity. If pain is becoming more frequent, yes, you should see an orthopedic surgeon skilled in foot/ankle or sports medicine. Have radiographs and discuss treatment plan with expectations to contact running.
Good luck.
