“Why is accidentally swallowing ocean water so painful?”
I am a 29 year old male. I want to know why is accidentally swallowing ocean water so painful?

Ocean water is 33% more salty than human level saline. Please don't swallow it. I am a previous surfer. When the black flag is out on the beach w no storm: its because sewage has gotten into the water. You can get Hepatitis from it. I'd say wear googles but depending on what your doing they would probably fly off easily.
