Will a deep filling need a root canal?

I will have a deep filling. Will a deep filling need a root canal?

Potentially if the nerve becomes irreversibly inflamed.
It sometimes will. Depends on the depth of the cavity.
If the filling is close to the nerve, most likely that tooth will need a root canal sooner or later. It could happen now, in the near future, in a year or two, or decades from now. But it is extremely likely to happen eventually.
