Will my chest hurt after open-heart surgery?

I will have open heart surgery next week. I wonder if my chest will hurt after open-heart surgery?

Your chest will be sorest within the first 24 hrs but this will steadily lessen and should not require any narcotics after discharge
It depends on what type of surgery you are having. Any type of incision will probably have some pain associated with it
Yes, you will have pain after surgery, but you'll be placed on pain
medications to relieve pain.
If your have a standard median sternotomy (split the breastbone) there is some discomfort but not nearly as much if you have an incision on the side of your chestbetween the ribs.  Usual pain medication will help and many patients do not havemuch pain after a week or so.
