I am 22-year-old male and I believe I have cavities. Are cavities serious? Should I see a doctor?

Small cavities usually become large cavities. You should definitely see a dentist for xrays of your teeth and visual diagnoses. The dentist can determine if you do have cavities and if so, what the appropriate treatment is.
Yes cavities area considered an active disease of the teeth. Cavities can grow to nerve and cause significant pain. At which point the tooth may require more treatment than just a filling. See a dentist for an exam.
Cavities are serious. They are caused by bacteria. They are best treated at early stages, before they become large, to help avoid or delay more complex treatment including root canals, crowns, and sometimes extraction.
