More often cause quality of life issues. Dangerous? In and of themselves, no. But they can lead to later problems if left untreated
Lumpy varicose veins are not dangerous per se but they may be a sign and indication of a medical condition called venous insufficiency. This condition is not life-threatening but can be very disabling in the long term as its progression is slow but irreversible without adequate diagnosis and treatment. Fortunately diagnosis is easily performed in the comfort of our office with an ultrasound and treatment, when indicated, is very quick and low risk, also performed in our office. There is no downtime with the treatment and many patients elect to go back to work following their procedures!
Generally not. However if they develop a blood clot they may become very painful.
Usually varicose veins are not dangerous. Sometimes if they rupture they can induce significant bleeding or if they get inflamed they may induce thrombophlebitis. If you have varicose veins in the thigh area near the groin, you must make sure that there is no pelvic venous congestion and no deep venous thrombosis.
Nope. The only risk is blood thrombosis which can be spontaneous. It’s just clotting of blood which is very painful. And bleeding if the vein gets too near the skin.
