Chiropractor Questions Chiropractic Adjustment

At what age is an adjustment safe for children?

My child has severe back pain, and she's just 13 years old. I think she needs an adjustment, but is she too young?

Adjustments given by a qualified chiropractor are safe for any age. I have adjusted as young as one week and as old as 97 years old.
Chiropractors can adjust patients of any age. 13 is not too young, but as always, an exam to determine the cause of her back pain should always be the first step. Chiropractor with proper training adjust newborns, and all ages upwards.
As a chiropractor who specializes in pediatric adjusting, I can tell you that chiropractic adjustments are safe for all ages, although, of course, adjustments for the very young are more gentle, and not every chiropractor is comfortable adjusting kids under 1 year of age. Chiropractic has even been found to be effective for certain forms of colic in infants, as well as neck spasms due to birth trauma. Your thirteen-year old should certainly be checked out for the causes of her low back pain. In fact, she is at the age where scoliosis first makes an appearance, so having a chiropractor evaluate and treat her would allow her to be screened for that as well.
As with your health, it is never too early to start caring for your spine. The spine is literally and metaphorically, your backbone. Bringing your child to a Chiropractor could greatly reduce or even resolve your child's back pain and they will thank you for it. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised how gentle and effective Chiropractic adjustments can be.
13 is certainly okay to be adjusted. It is more important at that age than it is for a full grown adult. The longer you leave the back pain, the worse it gets over time.

Respectfully,
Chiropractic care is safe for all ages. I have adjusted babies right after birth to help mitigate the effects of a traumatic or stressful birthing process.
Find a chiropractor who works with kids regularly (not all of them do), or one who specializes in pediatrics, and she will receive great care!
Hello,

Sorry your 13-year-old has back pain. Many chiropractic physicians treat pediatrics in their office. Depending on the location of the pain and history, she may need an X-ray.
Your child, at 13, is safe to get an adjustment. Many chiropractors adjust infants and children. Chiropractic is safe for any age. Just ask the chiropractor if they have experience with adjusting children. Some chiropractors specialize in caring for infants and children. Especially since she is experiencing back pain, it would be wise to see what the chiropractor can do to help her.
I've adjusted newborns on the way home from the hospital, so I believe any age is safe.
I am the father of 2 boys. I started adjusting them the day they were born and have continued to adjust them. There are different ways to adjust infants that are very safe and effective for ear infections and colic. There are pediatric chiropractic specialist all over the country. Do a Google search and you will find one near you. If you have a spine you need Chiropractic care.
No one is too young for chiropractic care. It is the best time to have regular chiropractic check-ups. My youngest patient was less than 3 weeks old.
Not at all. Children experience trauma just as adults do. The only difference is they respond faster to care. In fact, some chiropractors are trained to adjust babies as well. It will greatly benefit her and they may be able to X-ray to determine if she has scoliosis.
Your question is a good one. Chiropractic schools train doctors to adjust and work with pediatric patients and many chiropractors specialize in peds. We adjust many babies to improve nervous system function, help with digestion, ear aches and reducing the traumatic effects from birth. The youngest I have personally worked with was about 2 minutes old. In your case, if your 13-year-old is having back pain, she should see a chiropractor who does a complete examination, perhaps even radiographs if indicated, and find the source of the pain. A trained chiropractor should be able to explain the back pain mechanism to you, so you understand the implications. Back pain in a 13-year-old is not normal and can be from a plethora of causes and should be evaluated diligently.
Thanks for asking. We have adjusted infants safely, so the answer is chiropractic care is safe for all ages if the doctor is properly trained. I see many patients that are that age.
I adjusted my kids when they were one hour old. No age is too young. It just has to be a lighter force.
There is no such thing as 'normal' growing pain in children. The symptom of pain, especially frequent or chronic should be evaluated to find the CAUSE, not merely cover it up with a pill. Infants (including newborns) and children can safely be adjusted by a chiropractor when history and examination warrant. Pediatrics, including adjusting, is taught as part of the basic chiropractic curriculum. Like allopathic doctors, chiropractic doctors have post graduate programs for doctors who wish to specialize in a particular area. Pediatrics is one. It is my opinion, based on over 40 years of experience, including the care of my own children and grandchildren, that all kids should be evaluated by a chiropractor in the first couple of months of life to check for birth trauma (which is very common). And, of course, whenever there is any traumatic event from falls (off bed, out of tree, off bike or horse), horseplay, or sports a check up trip to a chiropractor is appropriate. Also, I recommend having a child evaluated around puberty by a chiropractor (spine expert) to check for development of scoliosis as early treatment will have the best results.

Hello,

No, she is not too young. Your spine needs proper care for a lifetime. I’ve personally adjusted my children, only a few hours old.

Sincerely,

Dr. Duchon
Pediatric chiropractic care is the essential foundation for promoting spinal health. Personally, I have cared for newborns, children, adolescents, and adults. Chiropractic care is essential for biomechanical growth and development. Therefore, proper chiropractic care has no age limit.
Any age can be adjusted from newborn and up. You do want to seek a Chiropractor who has experience treating pediatrics. But it is as safe for a 13 year old as for any adult.
That is an excellent question. My daughter was adjusted within an hour of being born and I have many patients who are children. More and more children are getting pain due to our lifestyle, more time on tablets, phones, and computers but also those who are active. In general, children who are adjusted miss fewer days at school, are able to focus better, and
perform better in sports. It is never too early to schedule an appointment with a chiropractor to have their spine checked. "As the tree bends, so it grows."
From birth if necessary!
I treat infants as young as a few weeks old in my practice. It is safe for any age.
She is not too young. I see infants in my practice (the birthing process can be very traumatic). There are many techniques that are adapted to younger patients.
