Can a CT scan detect prostate abnormalities?

I am a 49 year old male and I will have a CT scan of my prostate. Can a CT scan detect prostate abnormalities?

Not necessarily. If the prostate is enlarged, it may show up, but it does not indicate malignancy. You may need a needle biopsy through the rectum, blood tests to assess your PSA, MRI will be an imaging modality more sensitive to detect a malignancy in your prostate.
MRI is better, CT is not.
