Some studies show it can kill bacteria but it depends on the study as well as who funded the study. As well listening uses synthetic essential “ oils” which as we know are not effective nearly as well as true essential oils. Eg. Thymol is not same as Thyme oil. Studies show essential oils very effective at kill rates and these oils need a dark bottle to prevent breakdown. Some studies listed by listerine quotes refers to essential oils studies but that misleads you into thinking it is their product. Also beware of alcohol content and oral cancer risk with exposure to alcohol over prolonged period of time. Great question. Dental Herb Company has best essential oils and kill rates.

It can help kill bacteria, however, regular use of a mouthwash containing alcohol is not a good thing. I recommend Tooth and Gum Mouthwash.

No.
Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums caused by bacteria. Listerine will kill the bacteria if used properly. Brushing and flossing the teeth before using the Listerine will allow it to reach all of the surface area of the teeth. Be careful not to use it to much. It has a high alcohol content that can dry out your gums and cause other problem. Listerine alone will not stop gingivitis.
