Can MRIs detect a lung tumor?

My friend is 60 years old, male, and he's coughing up blood. He's a smoker but he thinks this isn't as big of a deal as we're making it out to be. But his doctor told him that he must have an MRI scan of his lungs. I think they suspect a lung tumor. Can an MRI detect a lung tumor?

CT of the chest.
CT is better for evaluating the lungs
Cat scan is better.
CT is much better for that, don't waste your time and money on an MRI for this.
