Anesthesiologist Questions Endoscopy

Can you be put under anesthesia for an endoscopy?

I'm 39, and I'm going to have an endoscopy very soon. But, I'm really afraid. Will I be put under anesthesia for an endoscopy, and if so, what kind?

Endoscopy is a test book, I mean there are so many endoscopies. If it is lower GI, they give sedation; with upper, you can have sedation. You should not remember if the surgeon knows what he is doing.
Yes, Propofol is generally used with most endoscopies.
Yes, a minimal/conscious sedation can make you very comfortable through this procedure.
Most of the endoscopic procedures are done under sedation, which is titrated to the needs of patient. Don’t worry, you will do great.
Anesthesia, often in the form of sedation, is often used for endoscopes. Ask your physician.

Typically during endoscopy you will receive intravenous sedation. A propofol infusion with a sedative hypnotic like versed and an analgesic like fentanyl is safe and reliable. No reason to be afraid or anxious. You will do fantastic!
